Dedicated Educator & Community Leader
For the past 21 years, I’ve proudly called Whatcom County my home. It is here, in this beautiful location where our family has enjoyed walks along the beaches and visiting the various parks throughout Whatcom County. My son and daughter both graduated from Bellingham Public Schools and have enjoyed everything from performances at the Mount Baker Theatre, skiing Mount Baker or simply spending time in downtown Bellingham. As you know, Whatcom County is a beautiful place indeed.
As a graduate from Western Washington University, I have been blessed with a career as both a teacher and school administrator. I have dedicated my career to supporting students, families, and coworkers. I have served on both school bond and levy committees. I believe that education and public service share a common purpose: to provide hope, create opportunity, and affirm that every person matters. Whether in the classroom, in our community, and with your vote for the opportunity to serve in public service, I am guided by a belief that all people deserve to be valued and heard. - We all matter.
I currently serve as a Commissioner on the Whatcom County Civil Service Commission and completed my participation in the Whatcom County Citizens Academy in May. In doing so, I have deepened my understanding of our local sheriff’s department and appreciation for the work they do serving our community.
Beyond public service, I serve as a finance elder at my church, a role that allows me to support our church community. I’m also a passionate sports enthusiast and enjoy spending time outside with my family and our beloved dog - Harper. With years of experience in education and community service, I am committed to ensuring that Whatcom County continues to be a place where everyone matters and hope is always within reach.
I’m running because I believe public service is a lot like education: it’s about giving people a voice, creating opportunity, and making sure everyone knows they matter. I want to keep working to make Whatcom County a place where hope, fairness, and community are always front and center.
I would be humbled and honored to have your support - Vote Mike Cullum for Whatcom County Council, position #2.
